What are FlexHours events?

FlexHours events are times when demand for energy spikes because lots of people are using energy at once, typically on extreme-weather days.

If you participate with a smart thermostat:

On these days, we make your thermostat schedule a bit more flexible by slightly shifting when your AC runs. To keep you comfortable, we cool your home before the FlexHours event begins, then run your AC a little less in the hours when demand is highest.

We always make sure your home stays within a few degrees of your regularly programmed temperatures, so you should stay comfortable before, during, and after FlexHours. We always notify you when they’re coming up, and we never adjust your thermostat on days without a FlexHours event.

If you participate without a smart device:

On these days, you can choose how to reduce your electricity use on your own during the FlexHours event by delaying energy-intensive activities like laundry or dishwashing — the more energy you save, the more rewards you earn!

We always notify you when they’re coming up, and there are no penalties if you skip. Need some ideas on how to lower your energy use on your own during FlexHours events? Check out our energy savings tips.
